So, all of you regular readers :P have probably been wondering what I've been doing with my time, since it obviously hasn't been devoted to writing blog entries. Well, I have been working at Zend (the PHP company) managing the Zend Framework project. It great! Somebody actually pays me to work on an open source project all day, and a good one at that!

Java Keywords => Ruby Keywords

Submitted by wllm on June 14, 2007 - 7:42pm.

Nowadays I'm programming almost exclusively in Ruby. It's generally been a spectacular improvement over Java server-side coding, but sometimes I find myself unable too remember keyword names in Ruby. So I put this small list together for my own reference.

A Tale of Two Startups

As usual, I've been too busy to keep up with my strict regimen of one blog post per month. I'll just summarize the past month quickly and move on to some more technology ramblings. . .

PAWS and some ramblings on the potential of the Semantic Web

I've been pretty busy since we last spoke. First off, as the following badge indicates, I'm now a proud member of PAWS:

Where I've Been

Looking over the website just now I realized I haven't posted anything for more than a month.
For shame.

And an update to the ATHF crisis: the two men charged in this fiasco have held a news conference. You simply MUST read about it. Props to these two for giving this situation exactly the gravity that it deserves. Bonus props for architecting the funniest news event I've ever seen covered.
Can anybody verify that the devices were actually Lite Brites? That would just make it that much more ridiculous.

I always knew they were terrorists.

I have to admit it. I read CNN daily. I can tell you that it's because I like to gauge public sentiment or that I'm fascinated by mainstream media phenomena, but I'd be lying. The fact is, I usually find it comic as hell, and occasionally tragic to the point of day-long depression. I'm in it for the drama of non-news. And if I'm not mistaken, so is the rest of its readership.

The QmailToaster Affair

Submitted by wllm on January 31, 2007 - 10:44pm.

After some software wrangling, mail list diving, and good old-fashioned googling, I now have a more-or-less functional QmailToaster installation on my Fedora Core 4 server. I'll tell you about the problems I had and how I solved them, then make a half-assed attempt to generalize the experience in to a statement about Linux and FLOSS in general. Let me first warn you, however, that I'm no hard-core sysadmin or technology obscurist.

Meet you halfway. . .

I finally got around to opening my copy of Core J2EE Patterns: Best Practices and Design Strategies, published by Prentice Hall and Sun Microsystems Press. While I'm only about 5 chapters in to it, I can already tell you this is absolutely essential reading for any Java/J2EE technologist. Why?
